Partnerevent: Training the Senses: Beyond the taste
In what way can we overcome the boundaries of taste?
Katja Grujiter and the students of ArtEZ Product Design Arnhem
will guide us through a journey in which we can investigate and explore all of our senses and their connection to our sense of taste.
After studying at the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands, Katja Gruijters decided to specialize in food and drink design. Since 2001, she has worked in her own studio in Amsterdam, designing food experiments, concepts and products. Katja makes use of long-term trends based on human desires. She has developed projects for companies in the Netherlands and elsewhere – Iglo Mora, Albron PP, RBV Leaf, Heinz, Seafood Partners, Sara Lee DE, Riedel Drinks, De Bijenkorf, Sorbo, Unipro and Servex.
Katja Gruijters developed a new course called Food Design and Innovation at the HAS Den Bosch agricultural college in the Netherlands, where she also teaches.
Additionally, she writes a monthly column about her vision on food design in Food Magazine, a trade journal for the Dutch food industry.
What is training the senses?
Knowledge is not only acquired visually at schools through language and text books. We learn thanks to all of our senses by listening, tasting, smelling, touching - even by using our intuition. Through Training the Sense participants explore and discover a new vocabulary for all their senses and a new way to transmit experience and acquire knowledge.
Training the senses is a ongoing series by Marres, where there is no division between the speakers/ performance and the audience. Everyone is welcome to join.
